Spring Break DAY ONE: made up holiday

Three years ago, Walter invented a new family holiday called Money Day. at the time I really wanted to make a sincere effort to support his idea, especially because of everything our family was going through with Charles. So now, every year since then I try to add money day to our lives. Spring break tends to be the time I lean into doing it, and this year was no different.

but this year? I sincerely felt like it was our last. Because, well, when the founder refuses to participate... it's time to say adios to the holiday.

here are the things we did...

1. Use the money gun. This year I used it and whoever grabbed the most IN THE AIR got to pick what order we did things. Sally won. because she used her shirt.

2. counted our money. We gave Richard some Chuck E Cheese coins to help him feel included.

3. watched how money is made. it was so boring. I guess I found the worst videos. we tried paper currency (which is actually cotton?) and metal currency (which is pretty cheap in actuality).

4. played Monopoly. I seriously do not like that game and it took everything in me to play it. Gladys won.

5. Play the magic penny game that Walter invented where everyone stands in a circle, sings a song, and passes a chocolate coin. Everyone gets a chocolate. this year there were no fights which was a miracle.

6. watched Scrooge McDuck and Aladdin... because both had to do with money and worth?

7. learned how to do tricks with a coin. I enjoyed this part a lot, but don't ask to see any tricks because it would take a LOT of practice... and I haven't practiced... and probably won't.

8. made our own currency while listening to money music. My favorites are "Money, that's What I Want", "In a Rich Man's World", "If I Were Rich Man", "Can't Buy Me Love", "She Works Hard for the Money", "Counting Stars", and "you Never Give Me Your Money"... I can't remember the others that I found.

9. give away money to someone and sing them a song about how "love is like a magic penny". The person we gave it to this year is someone we have tried to give it to the past two years but she is never home. Finally, we were successful. She was very appreciative.

I did write down that I wanted to do a lesson on WORTH as well, but it never happened.

also...

It was a rainy day and it took EVERYTHING IN ME to go grocery shopping. I did get to hang out with my ministering companion today. She is THE bees knees and I love her.
I also made it to the temple this morning, which was lovely as always, and I got some dishes and laundry done. I ate a whole lot of garbage today and feel really unhappy about my goals. The real clincher was getting a call from Jeff today concerning our house shopping in Indiana. The realtor doesn't believe we will find a house we can afford. and that makes me... depressed.
